Festival Date: Friday 9th July – Sunday 11th July.
This popular event was initially thought up by a couple of keen locals over a few beers and is now coming into its fourth year. It is a typically crazy kiwi event, whereby people attach mad flying machines to their bodies and hurl themselves off the Russell wharf.
The actual birdman jump is part of the larger festival that starts with a 'drag' race on Friday evening and finishes on Sunday with some fun beach activities for all the family. There'll be prizes for all events, dinghy races, spaghetti eating competitions and much more.
Kiwis never shy away from ludicrous water activities just because its winter. So head up north on the 9th July and be part of the madness!
