Below is a recommendation only of items you should consider when travelling around New Zealand. Most items can be purchased cheaply once you’ve arrived, or can be hired during the Self Check-in process
New Zealand is a temperate climate, but as an island nation, note that conditions can change quickly. For more information on climate in New Zealand, refer to the met service website (http://www.metservice.com/national/). This resource will give you up to date weather forecasts for all major centres, weather warnings and ski updates for all major ski fields during ski season.
The most important thing to bring you is your sense of adventure. We only ask that you respect our environment when you travel so it can be enjoyed for generations to come.

It’s really important we know what time within our branch hours you will be picking up and dropping off your Camper. When you are completing your booking, please give us an accurate arrival time in the branch for pick up & drop off. Pick up and drop off outside of these times may cause a delay and impact the time spent at the branch.
If you wish to change these times you must obtain authorisation from the Mighty Reservation Centre or further fees will apply.
Check yourself out – Mighty’s Camper pick up and drop off are self-service and you must complete the simple online self-check in prior to arrival. It will save you time and get you out on the road faster. You can also select any extra hire items such as pre-paid fuel (PPF), tables, chairs and GPS which we will have ready for you in your Camper on arrival. You’ll find the link to complete this on your booking confirmation and we’ll also email you a reminder before you arrive. If additional service is required from a Mighty staff member in branch, a fee of $50 may apply
Once you have arrived at our branch, you’ll be on the road in your Mighty Camper in no time. Remember that you must pick up at your advised branch arrival time. Pick up outside of your specified time may cause a delay and impact the time spent at the branch.

Our Mighty crew will give you the keys to your Camper and will also require to sight your driver’s licence. Once you’re in your vehicle, you’ll find your selected extra hire items all ready for you. So you can put everything just where you want it, unpack the kitchen & living equipment provided in a sturdy plastic container – you can take this container with you on your travels if you wish - but if it will get in your way, just leave it at the branch. We will provide you with a new bin when you are dropping off your Camper so you can pack up all the equipment before you leave the branch. Also remember that your Mighty handy vehicle information will be in the passenger door pocket just in case you need to refer to it during your roadtrip.
We have location fees at our Queenstown branch. A location fee of $210 applies to the Deuce & Double Up Campervans for pick up and drop offs in Queenstown.
To offer you the very best and most competitive rate, our rates change on a weekly basis. Enter the dates you wish to travel in the fields provided on the right and we will provide you with not only an accurate price but also live availability.
Rentals can be combined to qualify the renter for a longer term rental rate. Note: It is possible to combine Australian and New Zealand rentals to qualify under the multiple rental rate, if the campervan collection date(s) is within a 3 month period. Total insurances paid cannot be combined for Australian and New Zealand hires.
Consecutive rentals between Mighty, Maui, KEA, Britz, United and Alpha can be combined to qualify for long-term hire discounts.
Minimum rental period is 5 days with the exception of the Mighty Lowball, which has a 3 day minimum if the pick-up, and return location are the same. One-way hires are subject to increased minimum hire requirements.
One-way rentals are available between all branch locations.
For rentals commencing between the 1st of October 2014 and the 31st of March 2015 a one-way rental fee of NZ$210 is charged for Lowball, Highball, Jackpot, Deuce and Double Down or NZ$260 for Double Up, for rentals between the North and South Islands and vice versa.
For rentals commencing between 1st April 2015 and the 30th September 2015 a one-way rental fee of NZ$50 is charged for all vehicles, for vehicles that originate in Auckland and return to either Christchurch or Queenstown.
Minimum rental periods are subject to change during peak periods.
Goods and Services tax (GST) is included in the daily gross rental rate of your vehicle hire. New Zealand GST is calculated at 15%.
The Road User Charge Recovery Fee is payable on diesel vehicles upon vehicle return. The Road User Charge Recovery Fee is included in the cost if the Almighty Pack is selected.

Mighty reserves the right to amend the Road User Charge Recovery Fee in response to changes in Government Road User Charges.
A current and full motor vehicle driver’s licence is required and must be produced upon vehicle collection. Should a foreign licence be in a language other than English, it must be accompanied by an accredited English translation. The translation must be provided by a NZ Transport Agency authorised translation service or a diplomatic representative at a high commission, embassy or consulate, or the authority that issued your overseas licence (an International Driving Permit may be acceptable as a translation if in English).
For our Lowball, Highball & Jackpot, you only need to be 18, or older. All of our other campervans have an age restriction and can only be hired if you're 21 and over. New Zealand takes the issue of drink driving very seriously. When you've been drinking, the chances of crashing are high. In fact, when you drive with a blood alcohol level at the legal limit (80 mg per 100ml), you are three times more likely to be involved in a crash than if you hadn't had a drink. Pretty
Please ensure that when you are driving a Mighty Campervan or Rental Car in New Zealand, you drive responsibly and safely. If you drink, don't drive.

Children under five years old must be properly restrained in an approved child restraint. The driver is responsible for making sure children aged under 15 years wear safety belts or are in approved child restraints.
The general urban speed limit is 50 km/h.
An urban traffic area is land close to or within a town or city. The land will generally appear fully built-up. An urban traffic area also includes partly built-up areas:
The general rural speed limit is 100 km/h. Please note that for the huge motorhomes (Double Up) this speed limit is reduced to 90km/h.
A rural area is land outside towns and cities. The level of roadside development is at a minimum. Houses in rural areas will generally be set back some distance from the road. There will be little kerbing and generally no footpaths.
Lets face it sometimes mechanical things just breakdown, sorry it just happens, despite our best efforts.
If you do need repairs there are a bunch of things you should know.
Best case scenario is you don't crash cos it is a pain in the bum, especially when you are on holiday!
If you do happen to have an accident it must be reported within 24 hours.

It’s really important that you return your Camper at your advised branch drop off time. If you’re on the road and need to remind yourself when that is, your selected drop off time is printed on your Rental Agreement. If you wish to change these times please contact our Mighty Reservation Centre.
You must make sure your fuel and LPG are full before you drop off your Camper. The fuel gauge must register as full and you must leave a receipt for the LPG bottle in the ashtray showing that it’s been filled within the last 24 hours. Additional charges will apply if this hasn’t been done. If you’ve prepaid your fuel and LPG, then don’t worry - just bring everything back empty!
Unsure if you’ve prepaid? Check out your Rental Agreement. If you’ve purchased The Almighty or PGO, then you’ve prepaid your LPG bottle. If you’ve purchased PPF, then you’ve prepaid your fuel. Easy! Make sure you select these options when you make your booking or complete online self-check in.
You think its gross dealing with your own poo, imagine if you had to deal with a complete strangers!
Make sure your toilet is completely empty of all waste and water. You do not have to put any toilet chemicals in it. Remember if we find a surprise in the toilet cassette, you will be charged an additional $125.
Pack up your Camper - ensure that all bedding is placed in the linen bag and all crockery, pots, pans, cutlery etc is placed into a plastic bin. If you left the bin at the branch when you picked up, no worries, just grab another one from the vehicle return area. If you unpacked your Camper and left the bin at the branch when you picked up, no worries, just grab another one from the vehicle return area.
Clean up your room! - ensure that you’ve taken any rubbish away, swept out the floor and generally your van looks spick and span! If it’s not in a respectable condition we will charge you a $250 cleaning fee. Also remember that smoking is not permitted in your Mighty Camper so this cleaning fee also applies to any smoking related cleaning.
Please leave these on the front passenger seat of your Mighty camper so we know you have returned them safe and sound. Chairs and table should be left inside your Camper (at the rear of the vehicle).
Simply leave your keys in the ignition and leave your completed checklist on the dashboard.
