Below is a recommendation only of items you should consider when travelling around New Zealand. Most items can be purchased cheaply once you’ve arrived, or can be hired during the Self Check-in process

New Zealand is a temperate climate, but as an island nation, note that conditions can change quickly. For more information on climate in New Zealand, refer to the met service website (http://www.metservice.com/national/). This resource will give you up to date weather forecasts for all major centres, weather warnings and ski updates for all major ski fields during ski season.

The most important thing to bring you is your sense of adventure. We only ask that you respect our environment when you travel so it can be enjoyed for generations to come.

      Summer

    • What time should I arrive to collect my camper?

      We've been expecting you.

It’s really important we know what time within our branch hours you will be picking up and dropping off your Camper. When you are completing your booking, please give us an accurate arrival time in the branch for pick up & drop off. Pick up and drop off outside of these times may cause a delay and impact the time spent at the branch.

If you wish to change these times you must obtain authorisation from the Mighty Reservation Centre or further fees will apply.

    • You must complete Self Check-in prior to arrival at the Branch

Check yourself out – Mighty’s Camper pick up and drop off are self-service and you must complete the simple online self-check in prior to arrival. It will save you time and get you out on the road faster. You can also select any extra hire items such as pre-paid fuel (PPF), tables, chairs and GPS which we will have ready for you in your Camper on arrival. You’ll find the link to complete this on your booking confirmation and we’ll also email you a reminder before you arrive. If additional service is required from a Mighty staff member in branch, a fee of $50 may apply

    • What to expect on pick up.

Once you have arrived at our branch, you’ll be on the road in your Mighty Camper in no time. Remember that you must pick up at your advised branch arrival time. Pick up outside of your specified time may cause a delay and impact the time spent at the branch.

You’ll receive your Mighty Pack that includes:

      • Rental Agreement – you legally need to have this in your vehicle for the duration of your trip just in case the cops pull you over.
      • Drop off information – detailing what you need to do prior to dropping off your Camper and what to do at the branch. A handy checklist will be given to you as well, so you can simply tick the items off.
      • Completed damage check form – just sign it and you’re on the road. If you have any queries about it, just check in with the Mighty crew.
      • Accident form – just in case
      • AA Travel Guide – filled with lots of handy travel info

Our Mighty crew will give you the keys to your Camper and will also require to sight your driver’s licence. Once you’re in your vehicle, you’ll find your selected extra hire items all ready for you. So you can put everything just where you want it, unpack the kitchen & living equipment provided in a sturdy plastic container – you can take this container with you on your travels if you wish - but if it will get in your way, just leave it at the branch. We will provide you with a new bin when you are dropping off your Camper so you can pack up all the equipment before you leave the branch. Also remember that your Mighty handy vehicle information will be in the passenger door pocket just in case you need to refer to it during your roadtrip.

Come here to find out the alcohol content of a standard drink to allow you a better understanding of your limits.

    • What's the deal with drinking alcohol and driving?

      Well...duh...it's not allowed.

New Zealand takes the issue of drink driving very seriously. When you've been drinking, the chances of crashing are high. In fact, when you drive with a blood alcohol level at the legal limit (80 mg per 100ml), you are three times more likely to be involved in a crash than if you hadn't had a drink. Pretty

Please ensure that when you are driving a Mighty Campervan or Rental Car in New Zealand, you drive responsibly and safely. If you drink, don't drive.

More more information relating to drink driving limits please visit Land Transport NZ.

    • What are the legal requirements regarding child safety?

Children under five years old must be properly restrained in an approved child restraint. The driver is responsible for making sure children aged under 15 years wear safety belts or are in approved child restraints.

    • What is the urban speed limit?

The general urban speed limit is 50 km/h.

An urban traffic area is land close to or within a town or city. The land will generally appear fully built-up. An urban traffic area also includes partly built-up areas:

      • In small towns
      • Within a metropolitan area
      • On the fringes of a metropolitan area.
    • What is the rural speed limit?

The general rural speed limit is 100 km/h. Please note that for the huge motorhomes (Double Up) this speed limit is reduced to 90km/h.

A rural area is land outside towns and cities. The level of roadside development is at a minimum. Houses in rural areas will generally be set back some distance from the road. There will be little kerbing and generally no footpaths.

    • When do I need to drop off my camper?

If you unpacked your Camper and left the bin at the branch when you picked up, no worries, just grab another one from the vehicle return area.

Clean up your room! - ensure that you’ve taken any rubbish away, swept out the floor and generally your van looks spick and span! If it’s not in a respectable condition we will charge you a $250 cleaning fee. Also remember that smoking is not permitted in your Mighty Camper so this cleaning fee also applies to any smoking related cleaning.

    • What to do with your extra hire items?

Please leave these on the front passenger seat of your Mighty camper so we know you have returned them safe and sound. Chairs and table should be left inside your Camper (at the rear of the vehicle).
