Advice for ferry transport

The Cook Strait divides New Zealand's North and South Islands and gives rise to one of the most beautiful parts of the country. The boat voyage between the two showcases the rugged south coast of the North Island and the tranquil Marlborough Sound region in the South Island.

Travel is between Wellington in the North Island and Picton in the South Island (and vice versa) and getting between them is very easy. If you are driving a Mighty Camper then all you need to do is drive on an interisland ferry, watch the beautiful scenery (or a movie if travelling at night) for the 3 hour journey, and then drive off on the other side.

There are two interisland ferry operators and each take hundreds of cars and campervans and run several times a day. You can book the Interislander NZ ferry when booking your Mighty vehicle online.

Make sure you book any interisland ferry early over the summer months as it gets very busy.
